RALPH MILLS OF WINTERSET DIES

Prominent Business Man Was Life-Long Resident of Community

Ralph O. Mills, a prominent Winterset business man for over half a century, and a life-time resident of this community, died this Tuesday, Nov. 21, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 77 years of age.

Mr. Mills founded the Mills Motor company, with the Chevrolet dealership, here in 1925, and operated it over a long period of years in association with his brothers and his son.

He was a native of Winterset, having been born here Dec. 2, 1889, a son of Charles A. and Lora A. Brinson Mills. He was married to Ellen Phipps, who survives him.

Mr. Mills also engaged in farming in Madison county, and was one of the founders of the Madison county Aberdeen-Angus association. He was a director of the Union State bank of Winterset.

He was a 50-year member of the Masonic order, the Winterset Rotary club, the Des Moines consistory Za-Ga-Zig Shrine, and the Order of Eastern Star here. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset.

In addition to his wife, he leaves a son, Robert Mills of Winterset; two daughters, Mrs. Dyle F. Martin of Clear Lake and Mrs. Dan McNamara of Des Moines; seven grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Clifford J. Miller of Winterset; and a brother, Charles Mills of Winterset.

Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2 p.m. from the First United Presbyterian church here, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John E. Fink, and the Rev. Thomas Foglesong of Des Moines. Burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
