Death of Mrs. S. A. Graham

Mrs. S. A. Graham, a former resident of Madison county, died at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wesley Jacobson, in Afton, Sunday, June 12th. She was 81 years of age, and a relative of the Grahams living in Winterset.

The deceased was born in Stranraer, Scotland, and after coming to Illinois, had located in Iowa, and lived here, for 60 years.

In addition to Mrs. Jacobson, she leaves five sons, S. R. Graham of Des Moines, Walter Graham of Orient, Robert of Creston, Will of Spokane, Washington, and Ed of Long Beach, California, and two other daughters, Mrs. S. H. Wimmer of Spokane, Washington, and Mrs. C. O. Bishop of Orient.

Funeral services were held at the Bishop home in Orient, Tuesday, and burial was at Orient. The late Sam Graham, her husband was a brother of Joe Graham of Winterset.

Elizabeth Grace Thomson, daughter of Samuel and Elizabeth Thomson, was born near Stranraer, Scotland, May 25, 1851 and died June 12, 1932, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Wesley Jacobson, in Afton, at the age of 81 years 18 days.

Mrs. Graham came with her parents from Scotland in 1856. They located for a time in Henderson county, Ill., afterward coming to Iowa where she lived for more than 60 years. On June 3, 1869 she was united in marriage to Samuel A. Graham at the home of her parents near Winterset. To this union were born nine children, eight of whom were reared to manhood and womanhood. They are Will of Spokane, Wash.; Ed of Long Beach, Calif.; Robert of Creston, Mrs. S. H. Wimmer of Spokane, Wash.; Mrs. Wesley Jacobson of Afton, Mrs. C. O. Bishop of Orient, Walter of Orient and Roscoe of Des Moines.

In addition she is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Annie Applegate of Dexter and Mrs. Jennie McCorkle of Smith Center, Kan., and 28 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

She was converted in childhood and in 1869 with her husband was a charter member of the Pitzer United Presbyterian church near Winterset. At the time of her death she was a member of the Orient Methodist church. She lived a faithful, consistent Christian life and always served her Master well, no matter in what community she lived.
