Wednesday, May 14, 1947RAYMOND CROFT Dies Suddenly
Raymond H. Croft, well known realtor and resident of this community for most of his life, died suddenly Tuesday while visiting in Newton at the home of his brother, Russell Croft. Death was caused by a heart attack. He was 54 years of age.
Mr.Croft was born in Winterset December 15, 1892, the son of George W. and Alice Croft. He graduated from the Winterset high school and attended Capital City Commercial college in Des Moines.
His early business career was spent in Winterset as an abstractor and realtor. He also lived for a number of years in Florida and in New York City, engaging in the abstract and real estate business in both places.
He was married to Mae Toson of Winterset. They were divorced last year.
Croft was a veteran of both World wars, serving in the army air forces in the first war, and as a storekeeper, in the second conflict. He also served as first lieutenant in Winterset's national guard company in 1926. He was elected justice of the peace here for two terms, and was candidate for mayor at the last election.
Surviving are his daughter, Mrs. Kathleen Moore of Quantico, Va.; two sisters, Mrs. Cora Jones of Des Moines and Mrs. Nona Greenwood of Winterset; three brothers, Russell Croft of Newton, George Croft of Des Moines, and Col. Frank Croft of the U.S. Marine corps, stationed at Cherry Point, N.C. and one grandchild.
Funeral arrangements were not complete Wednesday noon. However, they will be held from Ramsey-Richards funeral home, and burial will be made in the Winterset cemetery.
