Adella Evans was born in Washington county, Ind., Feb. 16, 1838; moved with her parents to Des Moines county, Iowa, in 1841, where they lived ten years, coming to Madison county in 1851 living in this county until her death.

She was united in marriage to Joseph Carter Jan. 23, 1863, who died April 10, 1908.

She was the second of a family of twelve children, five of whom still survive her: Wm. M., of Laverne, Okla.; Mrs. Nancy Speer of Jackson township; Alexander, of Stillwater, Okla.; John H., of Thedford, Neb.; Andrew Jackson, of Dodson, Mont., and a number of other relatives besides a host of friends.

She united with the Predestaniars Baptist church in early life remaining a faithful member till her death, which occurred Sunday morning, Feb. 27, at 2:30 o'clock, after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held Tuesday at the Christian church, conducted by Rev. F. M. Jordon. Interment was made at the Baptist cemetery, north of town.
