Agnes Chickering, Winterset

Services for Agnes Chickering, 96, Winterset, who died Nov. 12 at the Care Center North in Winterset, were held Wednesday morning, Nov. 15, at the First United Presbyterian Church with the Rev. David Bauer officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born in Aberdeen, Scotland on Jan. 6, 1893, she was the daughter of William and Margaret Newton Wood. She was a seamstress and a homemaker and was married to William Taylor in 1914 in Massachusetts. He died in 1933. She married Joe Chickering in 1941 in New York and he died in 1970.

Mrs. Chickering lived here since 1967 and was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church. She came to the U. S. in 1912 and was naturalized in 1920 and lived in Quincy, Mass., from 1912 to 1925. She then spent 22 years in New York until moving to Lewis, Iowa.

Survivors include a son, Douglas Taylor of Winterset; a daughter Haber of North Port, N. Y.; two grandchildren and two great-grandsons.

She was also preceded in death by her parents and several brothers and sisters, all buried in Scotland.
