Sarah Cooksey was born in Indiana May 5, 1844, and died at her home in Winterset April 7, 1915, aged 70 years, 11 months and two days. Her mother died when she was a little baby and she then made her home with her grand mother. In early young womanhood she was united in marriage to Columbus Yoakum in Missouri. Mr. Yoakum was killed during the Civil War. Two children were born to this union, a son and a daughter, both dead, but five grandchildren and several great grandchildren survive.
At the close of the war she came to Iowa and was married to Wm. Mitchell Acheson. Four children were born to this union, two dying in infancy. Those living are Mrs. A. Richey, of Huron, S. D., and James E. Acheson, of Osceola, and ten grandchildren. Mr. Acheson died in 1887.
On March 17, 1889 she was united in marriage to Geo. W. Guy. In early girlhood she united with the Methodist church but in late years has not been active in church work. Funeral services were held at the home April 9 at 2 p.m., conducted by Rev. L. F. Davis. Interment in Rock City cemetery.
