Mrs. Melvin H. Jones, a well known Winterset woman, died last Thursday, April 10, 1947, at her home in Winterset. She was 48 years of age, and had been in delicate health for many years.
Mrs. Jones was the former Elizabeth Irene Evans, daughter of David and Elizabeth Evans, and was born at Hiteman, in Monroe county, March 9, 1899. When she was six years old she went with her parents to Doniphan, Mo., and in 1911 they moved to Madison county, which had been her home since that time.
She was married to Melvin H. Jones on August 28, 1919. Most of their married life was spent on a farm in the Zion community of Scott township, but in 1943, because of her failing health, they moved into Winterset.
As a child Mrs. Jones was baptized in the Methodist Union Chapel church of Monroe county. During her years in Scott township she was affiliated with the Zion Federated church, after coming to Winterset she united with the First Methodist church here. She was a member of the local chapter of the American Legion auxiliary.
Surviving are her husband; one son, Hubert C. Jones of near Winterset; a granddaughter; two brothers, Thomas E. Evans of Rushville and George E. Evans of West Des Moines, and sister, Mae, of California.
Funeral services were held Saturday from the Ramsey-Richards funeral home in charge of the Reverend G. L. Hufstader, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
