ROBERT BAUR, 96, Died on Monday

Robert Baur, one of the oldest residents of Jefferson township and member of a pioneer family of the German settlement in that community, died Monday, Dec. 23, 1963, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He was 96 years of age, and had been a patient at the hospital in Winterset since Aug. 24, 1961.

Mr. Baur was born Aug. 27, 1867 in a log cabin in Jefferson township. He was one of seven children born to Stanislaus and Theresa Bush Baur.

He received his education at the DeSoto school, and the Dexter Normal academy.

Mr. Baur was married March 19, 1895, to Hettie McBride, daughter of another pioneer Jefferson township family. They farmed in Jefferson township for nearly half a century, moving to Winterset in 1944. They celebrated their Golden Wedding anniversary in March, 1945, at their home on West Filmore street.

Mrs. Baur died in 1954. After that, he made his home with a son, Edward Baur, until he entered Memorial hospital in 1961.

Mr. Baur is survived by four children; Mrs. R. J. Smith of Winterset, R. Edward Baur of Jefferson township, Mrs. Eleanor Halderman of Des Moines, and Merritt Baur of Jefferson township. He also leaves eight grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and two great great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held this Thursday from the Fisher Funeral home in Van Meter. Burial will be in the Jefferson cemetery.

The family requests, that in lieu of flowers, those wishing to do so, may make contributions to the Jefferson cemetery association, of which he served as a director for a number of years.
