Dean S. Leslie, Winterset

Services for Dean S. Leslie, 57, longtime music instructor in the Winterset Community Schools who died of a heart attack May 12 during a concert at the Middle School, were held Monday, May 16 at the high school, with the Rev. Byron Ayers officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

In giving a eulogy for Mr. Leslie, teacher, John Safford said at the services: "The memory of Dean's music, humor and dedication to our profession should serve to move all of us who are on the faculty to be more concerned with the individual and each student to accomplish things beyond that which they would have originally thought possible."

Winterset schools were dismissed Monday afternoon so that school staff members and students could attend the services. Mr. Leslie was a vocal music instructor for 31 years and guidance counselor at the high school. He also was associated with the Winterset Municipal Swimming Pool for 30 years and the manager of the pool for 20 years. Born at Kansas City, Mo., on Apr. 21, 1926, he was the son of Ray and Blanche Schultz Leslie. He was married to Doris Sue Runnells Aug. 26, 1951 at Gallatin, Mo. She died Nov. 4, 1957. He married Virginia Silliman in Winterset on July 2, 1965.

Mr. Leslie was a veteran of the U. S. Army Air Corps and a member of the First United Methodist Church. He was also a member of the Lions Club, the Iowa State Education Association, National Education Association, American Legion, the Winterset Community Education Association and the Iowa Personnel and Guidance Association.

Survivors include his wife; daughter, Mrs. Sandra Holliday of Corning, Mrs. Debra Holliday of Westminister, Colo., Mrs. Janice Weeks of Lorimor and Mrs. Paula Griffith of Fontanelle; a sister, Mrs. Beverly Gilmore of Raytown, Mo.; and nine grandchildren

He was also preceded in death by his mother
