A former resident of the Patterson area, Curtis Wilson Howell, 74, died Monday, January 3, 1977, at Wesley Acres Health Care Center in Des Moines, where he had resided for four weeks. He was the youngest of eight children born to Lanson and Mary E. Howell, born July 20, 1902, on the Howell homestead northeast of Patterson. He lived there until moving to Des Moines in 1945.
A retired farmer, Mr. Howell was married to Della Quick in Des Moines on August 3, 1922. He attended Capital City Commercial College in Des Moines, Heal's Business College in Long Beach, Calif. and was a member of the Polk County Farm Bureau. He was affiliated with the First United Methodist Church of Des Moines.
Survivors include his wife, Della; three daughters, Mrs. F. Arthur (Ida Mae) Erickson of Madrid, Mrs. Norman (Phyllis) Wittrup of Lakewood, Colo., Mrs. Gene A. (Rose Ann) Schmaltz of Des Moines; one son, Curtis W. Howell of Kansas City, Mo.; nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and two brothers, Dorwin Howell of Winterset and Russell Howell of Vacaville, Calif.
Funeral services for Curtis Howell were conducted Wednesday, January 5, from Dunn's South Side Funeral Home, Rev. Donald Frank of First United Methodist Church and E. E. Peters of St. John's Methodist Church presiding. Burial was made at Montpelier Cemetery, Patterson.
