C. Aaron Howell, 88, of Winterset, Iowa died of pneumonia Monday, Jan. 19. 1998 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines.

Visitation will be from noon to 8 p.m. today, Jan. 21, at Ochiltree Funeral Service in Winterset where the family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, Jan. 22 at the First Baptist Church in Winterset with Pastors John Shaull and Larry Nelson officiating. Burial will be in Winterset Cemetery.

Mr. Howell was born in Madison County, Iowa, on Jan. 14, 1910 to Charles and Sadie (Lovelace) Howell. He married Lola McCorkle on Dec. 27., 1930, at the West Star Methodist Church parsonage.

Mr. Howell was a graduate of Iowa State University where he obtained a degree in ceramic engineering. Following his graduation from Iowa State he began farming, which he did until his retirement. He also worked several years as a lay witness missionary. He was a lifelong member of West Star Methodist Church and he was also a member of Farm Bureau and the Gideons.

He is survived by his wife; three sons, Walt Howell and his wife Nancy of Earlham, Duane Howell and his wife Dorothy of Greenbay Wis., and Gary Howell and his wife Deborah of Mason City; one daughter, Karen Van Essen and her husband Norman of Winterset; 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers and three sisters.

Memorial donations may be directed to a fund which has been established by the family.
