Native of Denmark, Lived for Several Years in This County
John Peterson, a resident of Madison county for several years, died Nov. 18 at the home of his step-daughter, Mrs. Mae Oaks of Adair, it was learned here this week. He was 86 years of age.
Mr. Peterson was a native of Denmark, where he was born Feb. 24, 1860. His early life was spent there, and he was married to Christine Norr of Denmark in 1879. They were the parents of one child.
Mr. and Mrs. Peterson came to Illinois in 1881, where the wife died a year later. Mr. Peterson then came to Elk Horn, Ia. He was married at Harlan, on June 29, 1886, to Anna A. Boyer. They were the parents of nine children.
They moved to Adair county in 1894 and spent a number of years there and in Madison and Story counties, where he was a successful farmer and stockman. For the past eight years they had made their home with Mrs. Oaks at Adair.
He is survived by his wife, six children, Hans Peterson of Cambridge, Albert Peterson of Lorimor, Clarence Peterson of Winterset, Alma Wassgren of Portland, Ore., Evelyn Mattison of Los Angeles, Calif., Blanche Peterson of Maxwell; the step daughter, Mrs. Oaks, 29 grandchildren, and 32 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Nov. 20 at the Adair Methodist church and burial was made in the cemetery there.
