Wednesday, January 3, 1973RALPH J. MAPES Dies at 61 Years
Ralph J. Mapes of near Winterset, a well-known farmer in this community, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 1972, at Memorial hospital here. He was 61 years of age.
Mr. Mapes was born at Enid, Okla., on June 21, 1911, a son of Horace and Mable Hollingsworth Mapes, but spent practically all of his life in Madison county. He was a member of the Christian church.
He was married in Winterset Feb. 28, 1935, to Gladys Bruett Stanley, who survives him. He also leaves two sons, Gean and Dean Mapes, and two daughters, Mrs. Donna Raber and Mrs. Mary Griffith, all of Winterset.
Also surviving are his mother, Mrs. Mabel Wright of Winterset; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; and three brothers, Elmer Mapes of Omaha, Nebr., and Clarence and Dale Mapes of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Monday from the First Christian church of Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
