WILLIAM M. DRAKE DIES

William M. Drake, well known Madison county farmer died at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines, Thursday, January 11th, 1933, at the age of 75 years. Mr. Drake had been ill, for twelve weeks, with shingles and complications.

He was the eldest son of John and Amanda Drake, and was born in Madison county, April 10, 1858. He grew to manhood in this county, and in 1880 he moved to Norton county, Kansas, where he took up a homestead. Because of the drouth he returned to Madison County and for three years he was engaged in blacksmithing in Webster.

His marriage to Mary M. Morse took place on July 9, 1881, and they were the parents of four children; Nina Hart and Warren Drake of Winterset, Cora Clausen and Ned Drake of Dexter.

In 1883 he went to Montana, but only spent one year in that state and came back to this county. He went to Norton county, Kansas in 1886, and farmed there until in 1900. He came back to Madison county, and had made this county his home since then.

He leaves his aged wife, four children, eleven grandchildren, one brother, Everett Drake and one sister, Mrs. Etta Garrett of Winterset.

The Rev. A. R. Weed, pastor of the West Star and Worthington churches conducted his funeral services at the Webster church, Friday, January 12th, at 2 o'clock and burial was in the Roberts cemetery. Rev. Weed was assisted by the Rev. Berchard, pastor of the Webster church.
