LAURINE SMITH, Winterset

Services for Laurine Smith, 79, Winterset, who died Sept. 1, 1987, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, were held Friday, Sept. 4, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Clarence Lautt officiating. Burial was at the Winterset Cemetery.

Born in Gibson City, Ill., on June 8, 1908, she was the daughter of Carl and Dora Olsen Peterson. She married Virgil Smith on Nov. 24, 1937 at Topeka, Kan., and lived in Winterset since 1939.

She was a member of the First United Methodist Church, the Questers Prayer Group, president of the Womens Society for Christian Service for the Creston and Des Moines districts, the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Matrons Club, Womens Society, Current Topics Club and the Tri L. Club. She helped conduct bridge tours with the Tri L. Club for many years during the Covered Bridge Festival.

Survivors include her husband; and a sister, Edna Peterson of Des Moines.

She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister.
