Gilbert "Gib" H. Tyer, 92, died of multiple systems failure Aug. 17, 2002, at Winterset Care Center South.
Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. today at the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset with the Rev. Jim Howland officiating. Burial was at Winterset Cemetery.
Gib Tyer was born July 29, 1910, in Madison County to Ray William and Lillie Belle (McDonald) Tyer. He attended Redfield High School. On Feb. 2, 1937, he married Pearl Algoe at the Hutchings-Wintrode home in Winterset. He began farming in the 1920s. In the early 1940s, his brother, Roscoe, established Tyer Brothers Construction, which Gib was associated with until his retirement. A resident of Madison County for most of his life, he was a member of the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset and the Knights of the Pythian Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, a sister and a brother.
He is survived by a daughter, Marjorie D. Stevens (husband Larry) of Des Moines; a son, Bob W. Tyer of Port Townsend, Wash.; two brothers, Calvin Tyer (wife Audrey) of Polk City and Earl Tyer (wife Emma) of Kingsley; two sisters, Margaret Peterson (husband Gene) of Des Moines and Esther Pilmer (husband Bob) of Winterset; three grandchildren; and five great-granchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the First United Presbyterian Church in Winterset.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Ochiltree Funeral Service & Aftercare in Winterset.
