S. A. Graham, 84 year old pioneer of Orient, died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wesley Jacobson in Afton, Thursday, October first. He had gone to Afton for a short visit. Mr. Graham had been a resident of Iowa for 65 years, and much of this time was spent in Madison county.
He is survived by his widow and eight children. Will Graham of Long Beach, Mrs. Sam Wimmer of Spokane, Edward of Long Beach, Robert of Macksburg, Mrs. Jacobson, Mrs. C. O. Bishop and Walter Graham of Orient and S. R. Graham of Des Moines. He also leaves a brother and sister, Joe Graham and Mrs. W. F. Graham of Winterset, 23 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren survive him.
His funeral services were held at Orient, Saturday, October 3, at one o'clock. Those driving from Winterset to attend the services were Miss Jeanette Beck, Mrs. W. F. Graham, Mrs. Leo Percival, Joe Graham, Frank Graham, Mrs. Lee Graham, Mr. and Mrs. John Beck and Mrs. (Mr.) and Mrs. J. I. Crossley.

Samuel Allison Graham, son of William and Jane Graham, was born at Biggsville, Henderson county, Ill., on March 18, 1848 and died in Afton at the home of his daughter, Mrs. Wesley Jacobson, on Oct. 1, aged 83 years, 6 months and 13 days.
He came to Iowa in 1868 and settled in Winterset. He was married on June 3, 1869 to Elizabeth Grace Thomson with whom he has enjoyed 62 years companionship. During 20 of these years their home has been in Spaulding, and for the past eight years their home has been in Orient.
He was converted in September 1869 and together with his wife became a charter member of the Pitzer United Presbyterian church. For the past several years he has been a member of the Orient Methodist church.
An infant son has preceded him in death; he is survived by his wife, two sisters, Mrs. Sarah Mundorf of San Jose, Calif., and Mrs. W. F. Graham of Winterset; one brother, M. J. Graham of Winterset, who is 92 years old and who attended the funeral services, as did also the sister, Mrs. Graham; five sons and three daughters; Will Graham, Spokane, Wash., Robert Graham, Macksburg, Mrs. S. H. Wimmer, Spokane, Wash,, T. E. Graham, Long Beach, Calif., Mrs. Wesley Jacobson, Afton, Mrs. C. O. Bishop and W. N. Graham of Orient and Roscoe Graham of Des Moines and 28 grandchildren., 12 great grand children and many friends.
Funeral services were held at the C. O. Bishop home at 1:30 p. m. Saturday with Rev. A. J. Mathews officiating and assisted by Rev. C. W. Basham and Rev. Mr. Shank of Afton. The pall bearers were six grandsons, Arlie and Earl Graham, Myrle and Allison Bishop and Graham and Cassell Jacobson. Charles Jackson sang, “In the Secret of His Presence,” and Mrs. Ben Augustine sang “Going Home.” Burial was made in the Orient cemetery.
