A. C. BRITTAIN of Winterset Dies

Alvin C. Brittain, well known Winterset furniture dealer, died Monday, Aug. 6, 1962, at Memorial hospital here, after a week's illness with a heart condition. He was 57 years of age.

Funeral services for Mr. Brittain will be held this Thursday, Aug. 9, at 2 p.m. from the Collins Funeral Home, with the Rev. John Casey of Ames, officiating. Burial will be in the North McDonald Cemetery.

Mr. Brittain was born in Winterset April 23, 1905, and lived 55 years of his life in this community. He was a son of Lloyd and Mamie Hendricks Brittain.

He had operated the Brittain Furniture store in Winterset since 1947. He took an active part in community affairs, serving on the Winterset city council for four years, from January, 1954, to December 1957. He was active in the Madison county Sportsmen's Club, was a member of the Odd Fellows and Rebekahs, and a former member of the Kiwanis club. His religious affiliation was with the Christian church.

Mr. Brittain was married at Greenfield on June 7, 1939, to Clara M. Anderson, who survives him. He also leaves three children, Mrs. Florence Brinkley of Sacramento, Calif., Ronnie Brittain, of Winterset, and Marilyn Brittain, at home; seven grandchildren; his father, Lloyd Brittain of Lorimor; two brothers, Paul Brittain of Winterset and Gerald Brittain of Corning; and two sisters, Mrs. Fern Day and Mrs. Cleo Kirkland, both of Winterset. His mother died in 1952.
