JOHN W. KRELL of Winterset Passes

John W. Krell, one of Winterset's most highly respected citizens over a long period of years, died at his home here Saturday March 16, 1940, after a long illness. He was 71 years of age.

Mr. Krell was a former county official, serving as deputy treasurer and then treasurer of Madison county. For the past 22 years he had been employed by Myles Young and company.

He had been promnent in church work here. As a boy he had united with the United Evangelical church at Oak Grove, and in 1913 transferred to the Methodist church in Winterset, where he served in various positions on the official board. He was also a member of the Masonic and I.O.O.F. lodges.

Mr. Krell was a native of Pickaway county, Ohio, where he was born Oct. 18, 1868, the son of Henry and Mary Wissler Krell. With his parents he came to Iowa in 1876. They settled on a farm in Webster township where he was reared.

He was married, on March 7, 1894, to Cora B. Hart. They were the parents of one daughter.

He is survived by his wife; his daughter, Mrs. Zella Shearer of Peru; four grandchildren, Shirley, Marilyn, Dawn and Carol Shearer; three brothers, Dayton Krell of Winterset, C. W. Krell of Ackley, and S. W. Krell; and a sister, Mrs. Tena Wight of Pasadena, Cal.

Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Winterset Monday, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. J. R. McNichols. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
