Stricken Fatally Tuesday Evening at Home of Friends
Granville D. Flood, a Winterset business man for 30 years, died early this morning (Wednesday) at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He had been stricken suddenly, a few hours earlier, at the home of friends.
Mr. Flood was 62 years of age. He was a native of Red Oak, where he was born Oct. 21, 1898, a son of William and Josie Hulse Flood. He was married in Adair county in July 1923 to Alda McGinnis, who survives him.
Mr. Flood came to Winterset in 1931, opening a dry cleaning shop here. He engaged in the dry cleaning business for 27 years, retiring from that in 1957. He purchased the Arcade hotel last November, and had been operating that business since that time.
During his residence in Winterset, he was a member of the Knights of Pythias lodge. He was a former member of the Loins club here. He was affiliated with the Christian church.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a son, Verle D. Flood, of Aberdeen, S.Dak.; a daughter Mrs. Keith Hughes of Casper, Wyo.; three grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Josie Flood of Winterset, and four brothers, Russell Flood of Winterset, Warren Flood of Stuart, and Woody and Jack Flood of Valley., Nebr.
Funeral services will be held this Friday at 2:00 p.m. from the Winterset Christian church, in charge of the pastor, the Rev. Robert A. Owens. Burial will be in the Winterset cemetery.
