FRED LEWIS of Winterset Dies

Fred A. Lewis, member of one of Winterset's prominent pioneer families, died Sunday, June 21, 1953, at a nursing home in Des Moines. He was 84 years of age, and had been in declining health for some time.

Mr. Lewis was born here April 2, 1869, a son of Judge and Mrs. W. H. Lewis. His father was one of the founders of this community, an attorney, judge, horticulturist and builder of note, having supervised the construction of the Madison county court house.

Fred Lewis also spent his life as a builder, and many of the finest business and residential structures in this community are the result of his work.

He was a member of the original board of trustees of the Madison County Memorial hospital.

Nearest survivng relatives include his wife, the former Myrtle Mullinix; and a son, Reginald Lewis of California.

Funeral services were held Wednesday morning from the Richards Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. Glenn Parrott, pastor of the Winterset Methodist church. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
