HAROLD HUNTOON DIED LAST FRIDAY

Winterset Community Leader For 33 Years Dies at 69 Years of Age

Harold V. Huntoon, a prominent Winterset citizen for 33 years, died last Friday Oct 30 at State University of Iowa hospital in Iowa City, after a brief illness. He had undergone surgery there about a week prior to his death. He was 69 years of age.

Mr. Huntoon was a native of Des Moines, where he was born July 17, 1885, a son of Herman and Harriet Copeland Huntoon. He attended Drake University in Des Moines, and graduated from business school at Boulder, Colo.

His early business career was spent with the Travelers Insurance company in New York City and in Des Moines, before coming to Winterset in 1931.

In this community he has been engaged in a variety of enterprises, including insurance, banking, farm management and the abstract business. He had been president of the Union State Bank of Winterset since 1935 and had operated the Madison county Land and Title company during all his residence here.

He was a veteran of World War I, and a member of the American Legion here. He was a founder of the Madison county Aberdeen-Angus association, and a past president of the Winterset Cemetery association. His church membership was with the First United Presbyterian of Winterset.

Mr. Huntoon's fraternal affiliations included the Winterset Rotary club, Masonic lodge, Des Moines Consistory and Za-Ga-Zig Shrine.

He was married May 7, 1927, at Long Island. N.Y. to Helen McCall of Winterset. His wife survives him. He also leaves a son, Howard M. Huntoon of Ft. Dodge; a daughter, Mrs. Robert M. Chamberlain of Lancaster, Calif; three grandchildren, Kathy and David Chamberlain of Lancaster and Michael Huntoon of Ft. Dodge; and a brother, Raymond Huntoon of Des Moines.

Funeral services were held Monday from the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John E. Fink. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
