Well-Known Winterset Man Dies at Memorial Hospital
John I. Crossley of Winterset, a life-long resident of Madison county, died Sunday, Nov. 17, at Memorial hospital in Winterset. He had been a patient at the hospital since Nov. 3.
Mr. Crossley was 83 years of age at his death. He was a member of a pioneer family in Crawford township, where he was born Oct. 9, 1880, a son of John W. and Cynthia Hardy Crossley. His early life was spent in farming.
He had been a resident of Winterset for many years. For some time he was engaged in the garage business here, and later, for many years, managed the branch office of the Iowa Power and Light company in Winterset.
He was a member and past patron of Evening Star lodge, No. 43 of Winterset, and was affiliated with the Winterset Rotary club. He was a member of the First United Presbyterian church of Winterset.
Nearest surviving relatives are a sister, Mrs. Bertha Miles of Winterset; and an adopted daughter, Martha Patton of Winterset.
Funeral services were held Tuesday from the Wilson Funeral home, conducted by the Rev. John E. Fink, pastor of the First United Presbyterian church. Burial was made in Mt. Pelier cemetery at Patterson.
