John Pease, son of John L. and Elizabeth Pease was born in Knox county, Illinois, October 24, 1865, and passed away at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith in Stuart, November 1, 1940 aged 75 years and eight days. He came with his parents when quite young in 1875 to Stuart, and grew to young manhood in this community. He received his education in the public schools and followed in his father's foot steps in the business of farming. For a number (of) years he lived on a farm southwest of Dexter, and the last 22 years of his life on a farm near Earlham.
Mr. Pease was a highly respected citizen in the communities where he lived. A good neighbor to all and a friend to all who knew him. For a number of years he has been a member of the Masonic Fraternity and lived up to the obligations which he took upon himself.
For several years he has been in failing health, he was tenderly cared for by Mr. and Mrs. Tom Smith and Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Smith who knew and respected him for so many years. His nephews and nieces were ever mindful of him and did what they could to make his life as happy as possible.
Two brothers survive him, they are George and Joe Pease of Hynes, California. With a host of relatives and friends who will miss this friend and brother whom they have known many years. Mr. Pease loved his home and lived a quiet retired life.
Funeral from Fairview church conducted by Rev. J. H. Freedline. The Masonic Fraternity had charge of the burial service. Interment Fairview cemetery where his parents are interned.
Relatives present at the funeral were: Mervin and Mona Pease and Mrs. Ida J. Bloomquist, Mr. and Mrs. Harold Pease of Muncie, Indiana.
Mr. and Mrs. George Kyte of Osceola; Mr. and Mrs. Guy Reece and daughters of Des Moines; and Mr. and Mrs. Art Williamson and son, Eldon of Estherville.
