GEORGE DURAND Services Thursday

Funeral services for George P. Durand, Sr., 86, of Newton will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, June 14, 1979, at the St. Charles Methodist Church with the Rev. Rolland Towell officiating. Masonic services will be held by Model Lodge No. 315. A.S. and A.M., of which he was a member, with Don Wilson the lecturer. Burial will be at the Scotch Ridge Cemetery. Mr. Durand died at the Nelson Manor Nursing Home in Newton.

Born on April 23, 1893; at Bagley, he was the son of Herbert A. and Isabelle Pilmer Durand. He lived in the Patterson and St. Charles areas until he moved to Newton 2 & 1/2 years ago. He worked as ASC County Chairman in Madison County a number of years and was also a farmer before operating a plumbing and heaating business in St. Charles.

He was married to Miriam Howell on July 6, 1927, in Madison County. He was a veteran of World War I and a member of the Winterset Veterans of Foreign Wars. He was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star at St. Charles.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Florence and Jeanette. Surviving are his wife, Miriam; a son, George Durand, Jr., of Newton; a daughter, Mrs. Virginia McNichols of Bloomington, Ind.; a brother, Everett Durand of Bolivar, Mo.; six grandchildren and three great- grandchildren.

Friends may call at the St. Charles Methodist Church at 9:30 a.m. Thursday. Wallace Funeral Home of Newton is in charge of arrangements.
