Doris Schulz, 83, of Winterset, died of complications of Parkinson's Disease on Jan. 13, 1997 at the Winterset Care Center North. Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 17 at 10:30 a.m. at the First United Methodist Church in Winterset. Pastor Jon Gaul will officiate the services and burial will be at the Winterset Cemetery. Visitation will be Thursday, noon-8 p.m. at Collins Funeral Home in Winterset. Family visitation will be 6-8 p.m.
She was born in Winner, S.D. on Jan. 2, 1914 to Loren Herschel and Emma Caroline (McComb) Eyerly. She married Harry Clayton Chickering on Oct. 12, 1935 in Ottumwa. She later married Ray John Schulz on July 6, 1947 in Madison County. She had been a resident of Madison County for the past 79 years. She was a member of the United Methodist Women's Circle, Pythian Sisters, TOPS, Bible Study, Farm Bureau and was active in 4-H. She was a former member of the West Star and Wesley Chapel Churches and the First United Methodist Church in Winterset.
She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; two brothers; one sister; one stepdaughter; and two infant grandsons.
Surviving relatives include two sons, Marvin Chickering and wife Iola of Algona and Dwayne Chickering and wife Sharon of Malvern; one daughter, Marilyn Chickering Hughes and husband Larry of Winterset; two sisters, Marjorie Souder of Rudd and Vivian Williams of Hot Springs, Ark,; 11 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the United Methodist Church and Parkinson's Foundation.
