Wilbur Callison, a well known Winterset farmer and hybrid seed corn producer, was killed last Friday afternoon, September 6, 1974, on his farm in southern Lincoln Township. He was 64 years of age.
According to Madison County Deputy Sheriff Ed Powell, Callison was killed when run over by his pickup truck in a pasture located about ten miles southwest of here.
Wilbur Callison was born in Lincoln Township on June 3, 1910, the son of Emory and Mary E. Macumber Callison. He had been a resident of Madison County most of his life.
He was married to Gladys Hirst at Nashua, Iowa on September 24, 1940. Mr. Callison was a member of the First Christian Church of Winterset.
A World War II veteran, Mr. Callison was a member of the American Legion and V.F.W. He was a past member of the Evening Star Lodge No. 43 A.F. and A.M., a past patron of the Order of the Eastern Star, was a member of the Madison County Board of Adjustment, and had been a member of the Winterset City Council and Winterset Zoning Commission. He was also active in church affairs.
Mr. Callison, in addition to farming, operated the Winterset Hybrid seed corn companay.
Mr. Callison is survived by his wife, Gladys, of Winterset, and by two children: Mrs. James (Sharon Kaye) Hochstetler and Kenneth Robert Callison, both of Winterset. Also surviving are two grandchildren; two brothers, Albert and Lloyd Callison of Winterset; and sister, Mary E. Wallace of Mount Vernon, Iowa.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Monday, September 9 at the First Christian Church of Winterset, with the Rev. Eldon E. Jandebeur officiating. Burial, with Masonic graveside rites by Evening Star Lodge No. 43 A.F. and A.M. was made in the Winterset Cemetery.
