Naomi Vierling, 78, of Winterset died from complications of surgery Aug. 1, 1999, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines.
Funeral services will be held today (Wednesday, Aug. 4) at 2 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Winterset with Dr. Bobby G. Dickerson officiating. Burial will be at Winterset Cemetery.
Naomi Vierling was born Dec. 11, 1920, to Henry and Adeline (LeMasters) Namur of Fostoria. A graduate of Spencer High School, she married Ernest Blake. Ernest died in 1957. She then married Gene Vierling on Oct. 18, 1959, in Winterset. She and her first husband, Ernest, owned and operated the Maple Leaf Hotel in Winterset from 1954-57. She was a member of the Winterset Bowling League (and Junior League Bowling instructor), Sweet Adelines, VFW Auxiliary, and the First Christian Church in Winterset. She also was a former Pythian Sister.
She was preceded in death by her parents and her first husband, Ernest.
She is survived by her husband Gene; a son, Chuck Vierling of Polk City; a daughter, Donna McDonald (husband Richard) of Winterset; a brother, Howard Namur of Alexandria, Minn.; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be directed to the family.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Collins Funeral Home in Winterset.
