Helen Vierling, Winterset

Helen Vierling, 79, of Winterset, died of cancer Jan. 6, 1997 at the Winterset Care Center North. Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 9 at 10:30 a.m. at the First Baptist Church in Winterset. Pastor John Shaull will officiate the services and burial will be at the Winterset Cemetery. Visitation will be today, Wednesday, from noon until 8 p.m. at the church. Family will receive friends from 6-7:30 p.m.

She was born in Patterson on Sept. 22, 1917 to Dennis and Nell (Blosser) Pace and graduated from the Patterson High School. She married Frederick Harold Vierling on Feb. 23, 1940 in Winterset. She was a homemaker and had worked at the Ben Franklin store in Winterset, Bentlers Cafe and Knotty Pine, Look magazine and had also been a cook at I-35 schools. She was a member of the Eastern Star and Sweet Adelines, and was a volunteer of the Madison County Meal Site. She was also a member of the First Baptist Church in Winterset.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and two brothers.

Surviving relatives include her husband; one son, Wayne Vierling and wife Jody of Winterset; one daughter, Karen Miller of Glendale, Ariz.; one sister, Doris Garland of Blue Springs, Mo.; 7 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be directed to the First Baptist Church or Middle River Hospice.
