Mrs. Alvin Johnson Dies

Mrs. Alvin Johnson, a resident of Madison county for the past fifteen years, died at her home five miles southwest of Winterset, early Thursday morning, July 14th. Mrs. Johnson who was 59 years of age, had been in poor health only a few weeks.

The deceased who was the former Laura Etta Butler was born in this county, October 20, 1879. She was married to Mr. Johnson September 4, 1899, and for six years they lived in Greenfield. They spent seven years in the west, and returned to this county to make their home in 1917.

Mrs. Johnson is survived by her husband, and four children: James, Mrs. Orville Henry, Mrs. Raymond Paullin and Mrs. Lester Yetter. She also leaves her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Butler of Ellston, two sisters and three brothers.

The Rev. W. C. Porter, pastor of the United Presbyterian church, conducted her funeral services, which were held at the Ramsey-Richards Funeral home Saturday afternoon at one o'clock and burial was made at Greenfield. A quartet from the United Presbyterian church, Mrs. Ralph McLees and daughter Madene and Mrs. W. C. Porter and daughter Flora furnished the music for the services.

Mrs. Alvin Johnson

Laura Etta Butler, daughter of Mary and Edward Butler, was born in Madison County, Iowa on October 20, 1879. She was called to her eternal home on the morning of Thursday, July 14, 1932, aged 52 years, 8 months and 20 days.

Her marriage to Alvin Johnson, occured September 4, 1899. They lived at Greenfield for 6 years. Then spent some 7 years in the west, returning to Madison County in 1917.

Five children were born into this home: Mary Elizabeth, who died when 15; Mrs. Gile Paullin, James, Mrs. Orville Henry, and Mrs. Lester Yetter all of Winterset.

Mrs. Johnson united with the United Presbyterian Church of Greenfield in 1899 and transferred her membership to Winterset upon moving here. She was a loving Christian wife and mother and a sympathetic helpful neighbor.

The close relatives left behind include: the husband, Alvin Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Guile Paullin and children Wayne, Gerald and Francis, Mr. and Mrs. James Johnson, Mr. and Mrs. Orville Henry and Ruth and Goldie and Mr. and Mrs. Lester Yetter and Lucille and Duane. The aged father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Ed Butler of Ellston, 2 sister's, Mrs. Maggie Courtney of Elliston and Mrs. Sadie Martin of Lusk, Wyoming. 3 brother's also survive her: Frank Butler of California, William of Baird, Nebraska and David of Lusk, Wyoming. A large number of other relatives and friends who loved her look to meet her in that better world.

The funeral services were at the Richard-Ramsey Home on East Court at 1 p.m. Saturday July 16, in charge of the funeral, was the Rev.W.C. Porter of the United Presbyterian Church. Burial was made at Greenfield.
