MILTON PATRICK Dies at 101

A life which spanned more than a century ended recently when Milton G. Patrick, a long-time resident of the St. Charles community, died in Indianola on Monday, January 14, 1974, at the age of 101.

Mr. Patrick was well known in Madison County, having lived in St. Charles from 1940 until moving to Indianola in 1971.

Mr.Patrick was born July 3, 1872, near Unionville, Missouri, the son of Jennie and Edward Patrick. At the age of 16, he learned telegraphy and embarked upon his profession of 50 years as a railroad depot agent and telegrapher.

His railroad career involved assignments for several railroad lines and living in many communities, including Farmington, Bussey, Prole, New Virginia, Truro, St. Marys and St.Charles. He first moved to St. Charles in 1903, when the narrow gauge railroad was still in operation. He retired in New Virginia in 1937, and moved to St. Charles again in 1940.

Mr. Patrick was a member of the St. Charles Christian Church, was a past president and secretary of the St. Charles Old Settlers Association and was a member of the Warren County Historical Society and the Indianola Independent Order of Odd Fellows. He held the title of Honorary Elder Emeritus of the St. Charles Christian Church.

Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Phyllis M. Young of St. Charles and Mrs. Lutie Huffman of Chicago, Illinois; and six sons: Gerry Patrick and Dean R. Patrick, both of Chicago; Vaughn Patrick of Beatrice, Nebraska; Roy E. Patrick of San Luis Obispo, California; James C. Patrick of Indianola; and Don F. Patrick of Jacksonville, Florida.

Also surviving are 21 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, and a brother, Dr. James G. Patrick of Spokane, Wash.

Funeral services were held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, January 17 at the St. Charles Christian Church. Burial was in the St. Charles Cemetery.
