DOCTOR GLENN ANDERSON Dies Sunday

Madison County lost one of its most respected citizens last Wednesday, May 29, 1963, in the sudden death of Dr. Glenn J. Anderson, a Winterset physician for 31 years. He was 64 years of age.

Dr. Anderson died of a heart attack while seated in his car at the Van Werden farm near Winterset. Death came without apparent warning.

Doctor Anderson had come to Winterset in 1931 to engage in the practice of medicine with Dr. W. H. Thompson. Following the latter's retirement, a few years later, he practiced medicine for many years in conjunction with his wife, Dr. Evelyn M. Olson, until her death last year. He continued in the active practice of his profession until the day of his death.

Doctor Anderson was born at Riverton, Ia., on Nov. 8, 1898, a son of Charles W. and Catherine Barger Anderson. As a young man he served during World War I as a lieutenant in the U.S. Army.

He was educated at the State University of Iowa in Iowa City where he received his B.S. degree in 1927 and his M.D. degree from the college of medicine in 1929. He was a member of the Phi Chi medical fraternity there.

He was married to Evelyn M. Olson at Sac City in July, 1933. Her death occurred in 1962.

Doctor Anderson had taken an active part in the affairs of his community for many years. He served several years as chairman of the Heart association in Madison Cunty, and headed its drives here, also those of the Salvation Army. He was a member of the American Medical association, American academy of General Practice, Masonic lodge, Shrine, and the American Legion. He was a member of the Methodist church in Winterset.

He is survived by a son, Dr. Carl F. Anderson of Iowa City; a daughter, Mrs. Marjorie Welch of Milwaukee, Wisc.; four grandchildren, Patricia Welch of Milwaukee and Mark, Beth and Carl Jr., of Iowa City; a brother, Paul Anderson of Minburn; and two sisters, the Rev. Grace Anderson of Perry and Mrs. Lois Jones of Perry.

Funeral services were held Saturday from the Winterset Methodist church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. John C. Porath. Burial was made in the Winterset cemetery.
