Elias Werts, Penn twp., farmer, Sec. 26; P.O. Earlham; owns eighty acres of land; was born in 1843, in Dolphin county, Pennsylvania; came to Iowa in 1870; married in 1867 to Miss C. E. Rough, of Pennsylvania; has five children; Mr. W. served in the army for four years, in company C, Ninth Indiana infantry; mustered out in Texas; Mr. W. has a most honorable war record, being in active service four years; was in the battles of Greenbriar, Stone River, Mission Ridge and many others.
