W. R. Shriver, (Capt.), Winterset, county clerk; born in Columbiana county, Ohio, in 1830 and came to this State in 1848 and settled in Jefferson county; he learned the trade of carriage maker; he came to this county in 1854 and worked at his trade until the outbreak of the rebellion, when he enlisted in the First Iowa Cavalry June 1, 1861, and served three years; after his return he resumed his trade and carried on the business until elected to the office he now holds; he married Miss Martha J. Foster in 1858; she was born in Indiana; their family consists of five children: William F., Henry W., Kate, Alvin B. and Frank.
