Theodore Cox, Scott twp., farmer, Sec. 5; P.O. Winterset; was born in Talbot county, Maryland, September 19, 1817; when twelve years of age went to live with an uncle by the name of Phillips in Dorchester county, Maryland, where he remained three years; at the age of fifteen he left his friends to make a living for himself; he went to Baltimore and learned a trade, that of a machinist; he remained there until the spring of 1844, and then went to Tippecanoe county, Indiana, where he only remained one year; from there moved to Keokuk county, Iowa, in the spring of 1845; while there he married Miss Sarah A. Johnson, a native of Kentucky, April 2, 1846; they have by this union four sons and two daughters, named: Margaret, Franklin P., George W., Hattie, Theodore Jr. and Walter; Mr. Cox came to this country in 1853 and selected his farm and moved his family here in 1854; he deals quite largely in stock and owns a fine improved farm of 514 acres.
