J. D. Carter, Scott twp., farmer and raiser of Short Horn cattle, Sec. 5; P.O. Winterset; was born in Lincoln county, Kentucky, in 1817, and came to this county in 1871; previous to his coming to this State he lived in Indiana, and for several years turned his attention to raising fine stock which he has since continued and for which he has a good reputation and his herd embraces some of the choicest families; he owns 272 acres of land; he married Miss Priscilla Daggy in 1854; she was born in Virginia and died March 6, 1878; has five children: Sarah J., John E., James V., Eliza A. and Minerva F.
