Greaves/Humann(Huemann)

My grgrandparents, Edmund J. and Minnie (Humann) Greaves are on the 1880 federal and 1885 state census in Rock Rapids, Lyon Co. My grandmother, Jessie Marie Greaves was born there. I think a sister, Flora or Fern died there between those two dates. Possibly others as Minnie had 8 children and only 3 lived. My grandmother was born in December, 1881 but I dont know the day. Does anyone know if I can get a birth certificate without the day? Would Lyon Co. courthouse be my best bet for that? Also, A Charles was born in May 1885 in Lyon Co. If anyone could help me with this family, I would sure appreciate it.
