Herman J. Moen, 74, of Inwood died Sunday, February 7, 1993, at the Canton-Inwood Hospital in Canton, S.D. of an apparent heart attack.

Services will be 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of Inwood with the Rev. William Breen officiating. Burial will be in the Richland Cemetery, Inwood. Visitation will begin 10 a.m. Tuesday, with the family present 7-9 p.m., at the Porter Funeral Home, Inwood.

Mr. Moen was born May 24, 1918, northwest of Inwood, the son of Helmer and Johanna (Severtson) Moen. He graduated from Inwood High School in 1937 and attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, S.D. In 1938, he went into partnership with his father and brother in the Moen's Farm Store at Inwood. From 1941 until Nov. 14, 1945, he served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On June 14, 1946, he married Dorothy Porter of Inwood. He retired in 1983.

Survivors include his wife; a son and his wife, Daniel and Pam Moen of Inwood; two daughters and their husbands, Cynthia and Pablo Nogueras of Augusta, Ga., and Rebecca and James Nitzschke of Cedar Falls; a brother and his wife, Henry and Marguerite Moen of Inwood; five sisters and their husbands, Angie and Harland Hanson of Atlantic, Charlotte and Don Anderson of Forest City, Jane and Marlo Hanson of Inwood, Mary and Milton "Swede" Anderson of Akron, and June and Don Katt of Humboldt; and eight grandchildren, Cynthia Nogueras; Adam, Erik, and Seth Moen; and Christian, Geoffery, Stefan, and Lauren Nitzschke.

OBITUARY--HERMAN J. MOEN

Funeral services for Herman J. Moen, 74, of Inwood will be held today (Wednesday) at 11 a.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Inwood, with interment in Richland Cemetery.

He died Sunday, February 7, 1993 of an apparent heart attack.

Mr. Moen was born May 24, 1918 northwest of Inwood. He graduated from Inwood High School in 1937 and then attended Augustana College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. He was in partnership with his father and brother at Moen's Farm Store, Inwood, beginning in 1938. From 1941 until November 14, 1945, he served in the U. S. Army in World War II.

On June 14, 1946 he married Dorothy Porter at Inwood. He retired in 1983.

He was active in the community, including helping establish the bowling alley, furniture store, swimming pool, new Bethlehem Lutheran Church building and West Lyon School building. He was a member of Kiwanis, Inwood Commercial Club, fire department, American Legion, Grieg Male Chorus of Canton and was on the board of directors of Security Savings Bank, Inwood.

Survivors include his wife; one son, Daniel of Inwood; two daughters, Mrs Pablo (Cynthia) Nogueras of Atlanta, Georgia, and Mrs. James (Rebecca) Nitzschke of Cedar Falls; eight grandchildren; one brother, Henry of Inwood; and five sisters, Mrs. Harland (Angie) Hanson of Atlantic, Mrs. Don (Charlotte) Anderson of Forest City, Mrs. Marlo (Jane) Hanson of Inwood, Mrs. Milton "Swede" (Mary) Anderson of Akron, and Mrs. Don (June) Katt of Humboldt.
