George, Iowa - Orval Harberts age 91 of George, died Monday, February 27, 2017 at Good Samaritan Society of George.
Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, March 3rd at Zoar Presbyterian Church east of George, IA with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery at George, IA.
Orval Lloyd Harberts was born February 10, 1926 at the family farm five miles east of George, Iowa to Harm and Marie (Van Hauen) Harberts. He was raised on the family farm and attended Dale Township #2 school. After his education, he remained with his parents and helped with the family farm.
Orval was united in marriage to Margaret Korthals on December 7, 1949 at the Reformed Church of Everly, Iowa. Together the young couple lived and farmed for five years near Dawson, Minnesota, before returning to the family farm by George in 1954. They farmed east of George and were blessed with five children. In 1991 they retired from farming and moved into town.
Orval was a member of Zoar Presbyterian Church and through the years was active as an Elder, Deacon and on the Cemetery Board. He enjoyed fishing, gospel concerts, gardening, grilling, and working in his shop.
October 25, 2008 Orval’s wife Margaret died after 58 years of marriage. Orval remained living in their home until he entered Good Samaritan Society in George, where he remained until his death this past Monday, February 27, 2017.
Orval is survived by five children, Iva (George) Kurz of Nashville, TN, Jan Geigle (special friend Brian Henry) of Sioux Falls, SD, Myrna (Paul) Hotchkiss of Humboldt, SD, Barb (Steve) Bentele of Sioux Falls, SD and Ordel (Melissa) Harberts of Rock Rapids, IA and thirteen grandchildren, eighteen great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. He is also survived by three sisters, Ethel (Marlyn) Wibben of Little Rock, IA, Marie (Ron) Niebruegge of Spirit Lake, IA and Sharon Schultz of New Ulm, MN and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret; his parents, Harm and Marie; brother and sister-in-law, Loren and Sylvia Harberts, sister, Marlys Jurrens and brother-in-law, Marvin Schultz.
