August 6, 1928 - December 1, 2016

Inwood, Iowa - Freda Van Voorst, 88, of Inwood, died Thursday, December 1, 2016 at Fellowship Village in Inwood.

Funeral services will be held Monday, December 5, at 2:00 PM at Netherlands Reformed Congregation in Rock Valley with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery of Rock Valley. Visitation, with the family present, will be Saturday, December 3, at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley from 5:30-7:00 PM. Memorials may be given to Fellowship Village in Inwood or Netherlands Reformed Christian School.

Freda (Huyser) Van Voorst, was born August 6, 1928, to Henry and Lizzie (Maassen) Huyser in Lynnville, Iowa. Freda was united in marriage to Jake H. Van Voorst on July 12, 1946 at her parent’s home. The couple were blessed with four children; Betty, Harold, Arnie, and Jerry. The couple farmed near Hills, Minnesota before moving to a farm near Inwood, Iowa in March 1967. Freda and Jake retired and moved into Inwood. Freda was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation.

Freda is survived by her husband of 70 years, Jake Van Voorst; three sons, Harold (Nel) Van Voorst of Rock Valley, Iowa, Arnie (Shirley) Van Voorst of Canton, South Dakota, and Jerry (Cindy) Van Voorst of Inwood; son-in-law, Dan Vice of Pottsville, Pennsylvania; eight grandchildren; and 18 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Betty Vice; brothers, Cornie (Mary) Huyser, Ray (Catherine) Huyser, John (Til) Huyser; and sister, Stella (John) Van Veldhuizen.
