George, Iowa - Agnes V. Kruse, age 99, of George, died Saturday, August 6, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Center in George.

Funeral service will be 10:30 AM, Wednesday, August 10th at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, IA, with Rev. Dale Lint officiating. Burial will follow at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George.

Visitation will be Tuesday, August 9th from 4:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 6:00 to 8:00 PM at Jurrens Funeral Home of George.

Agnes Violet Kannegieter was born March 26, 1917 at Toronto, South Dakota. She was the third child of Albert and Bertha (Bruns) Kannegieter. At one year old her family moved to Willow Lake, South Dakota. She attended country school through 8th grade and graduated from Willow Lake High School in 1934. After her education she and her family moved to Little Rock, IA.

On November 29, 1939 she was united in marriage to Helmer M. Kruse at George, IA. Together they lived and farmed near Little Rock, IA and in 1945 they moved to a farm near Sibley, IA. In 1958 they bought a farm southwest of George, IA and farmed there for the next 20 years, retiring in 1978. At that time they moved to town where they remained. During these years Agnes taught night school for 7 years in George and Ashton for 4 years. She also worked at the drive inn in George.

She was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church, active as a Sunday School Teacher for many years. She served on the George Bicentennial Museum Board and was a charter member of the Ostfriesen Genealogical Society of George. She also was active with Girl Scout Brownies. She provided many wedding cakes and mints for many weddings in the area.

In 2000 her husband Helmer died after 60 years of marriage. She remained active with community and church activities. In 2010 she entered Good Samaritan Society in George where she remained until this past Saturday, August 6, 2016, where she died at the age of 99.

She is survived by her three children, Larry (wife Henrietta) Kruse of Inwood, IA, Janis (husband Chuck) Jerde of Larchwood, IA and Sharon Kruse of Rancho Cucamonga, CA; five grandchildren, Jack (wife Shari) Kruse of George, IA, Daryl (wife Kristine) Kruse of Racine, WI, Jill Kruse (husband Major Anderson) of Brookings, SD, Jessica (husband Jeremy) Welch of Cranberry Township, PA and Scott (wife Emily) Jerde of Brandon, SD; great-grandchildren, Kendall, Kaitlin, Keeley, Spencer, Alaina and Marissa Kruse, Tyler and Allison Anderson, Nathan Jerde, and Ethan Welch; three great-great-grandchildren, Jayla and Jordyn Van Voorst and Lane Kruse; brother, Delbert (wife Gladys) Kannegieter of George, IA; sister, Wanda Koger of George, IA; sister-in-law, Marlene Kannegieter of George, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Helmer Kruse; granddaughter, Shawntel Rydell; five siblings, Mattie Johnson, Henry Kannegieter, Delores Colwell, Marvel Blum and Robert Kannegieter.
