February 24, 1937 - August 6, 2016

Rock Rapids, Iowa -- Dale Schubert, age 79, of Rock Rapids, died Saturday, August 6th, 2016 at his home in Rock Rapids.

Memorial service will be 10:30 a.m. Friday, August 12th, 2016 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids with Rev. Dan Kordahl officiating. Inurnment will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids.

Dale William Schubert was born on February 24, 1937, the son of William and Minnie (Lauck) Schubert. He attended Allison Country school rural Lester, IA thru the 6th grade and later graduated from Rock Rapids High School. Dale then attended Buena Vista College in Storm Lake, IA for a year.

On August 9, 1957, Dale was united in marriage to his childhood sweet heart, Wilma Dieters at the Immanuel Lutheran Church in Rock Rapids, IA. To this union three daughters were born: Kay, Kathy and Sue. Dale worked for Stewart Construction from 1957 until retiring in 2007. His hobbies included reading, watching old movies, playing chess on the computer, and watching the birds in his backyard. Dale was always taking notes and making lists. He was a fan of the Green Bay Packers and the Iowa Hawkeye’s. He enjoyed helping his sons-in-law when they would paint the lines on the football field at the high school. During that time he earned the nickname “Gator” because he would drive the schools John Deere Gator to bring them paint.

A fond memory that his daughter’s recall was when their dad would comeback from working out of town, he would buy them clothes for their Barbie Dolls and he always picked up roses for his wife Wilma. One of the things Dale enjoyed the most was sitting and talking with his grandchildren and telling them stories. He also loved spending time with his great-grandchildren. He will be greatly missed.

Dale is survived by two daughters: Kay (Kendall) DeGroot of Doon, IA and Sue (Ron) Boogerd of Rock Rapids, IA; eight grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; one sister Joanne Vogel of Missoula, MT; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Minnie Schubert; wife, Wilma Schubert; daughter, Kathy Knobloch; and brother, Glen Schubert.
