George, Iowa -- Beatrice “Beats” Monkemeier age 91 of George, IA died Wednesday, August 24, 2016 at the Good Samaritan Society in George, IA.

Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, August 29, 2016 at the Ashton Bible Church in Ashton, IA, with Pastor Dan Kunnari officiating. Burial will follow in the Zion Lutheran Cemetery rural Ashton, IA.

Visitation will be Sunday, August 28th with the family present from 3:00 p.m. until 5:00 p.m. at the Jurrens Funeral Home in George, IA.

Beatrice Mae Monkemeier was born on March 23, 1925 in Sibley, Iowa, the daughter of William and Anna (Buss) Hassebroek. She grew up on a farm near Sibley and later graduated from Sibley High School. She then attended Northwestern Junior College in Orange City, IA for a semester.

On August 28, 1944, she was united in marriage to Marvin Monkemeier in Sibley, IA. The couple lived on a farm near Ashton, IA and later moved to George, IA. Beatrice taught country school for a time, worked for Verdoorn Nursing Home as a cook for several years and volunteered at the Raccoon River Bible Camp in Scranton, IA. She was a charter member of the Ashton Bible Church in Ashton, IA. She served in the Kiwanis Club of George, the George Museum Board and the Christian Women’s Club. Beatrice enjoyed cooking, quilting, reading and writing. She will be greatly missed.

Beatrice is survived by four children: Douglas (Merri) Monkemeier of Gig Harbor, WA, Darvin (Peggy) Monkemeier of Salinas, CA, Arloa Sutter of Chicago, IL and Dean (Sherilyn) Monkemeier of Western Springs, IL; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; two sisters: Ethel Augsberger of Sibley, IA and Donna Rypkema of George, IA; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, William and Anna Hassebroek; husband, Marvin Monkemeier; son, Dennis Monkemeier; and two brothers: Oran Hassebroek and Donald Hassebroek.
