January 23, 1929 - September 29, 2016

Little Rock, Iowa - Dolores E. Wiertzema, age 87 formerly of Little Rock, died Thursday, September 29, 2016 at Sibley Specialty Care in Sibley, Iowa.

Graveside service will be 11:00 AM, Friday, September 30, 2016 at the Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock, IA, with Pastor Scott Burdsall officiating.

The Jurrens Funeral Home of Sibley is handling arrangements.

Dolores Etteline Wiertzema was born on January 23, 1929 in Nobles Country, Minnesota, the daughter of George and Martha (Walters) Waltjers. For part of her childhood years she lived near Matlock, Iowa and then they later moved to Little Rock, Iowa. Dolores graduated from Little Rock High School in 1946. She was united in marriage to Harry L. Wiertzema on August 31, 1946 in Worthington, Minnesota. To this union four children were born: Harry W., Georgia, Roger and Robert. Dolores and her husband had an acreage at Little Rock, Iowa.

She enjoyed helping her husband with milking cows and other farm chores. After Harry passed away, she worked for a while at the Sibley Nursing & Rehab (now Sibley Specialty Care). She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Little Rock, where she taught Sunday school and catechism for many years. She was also a member of the Little Rock City Council for a while. Dolores enjoyed crocheting, playing bingo, and bowling, and she loved to dance.

Dolores is survived by three children: Georgia Whitehouse of Estherville, IA, Roger (Susan) Wiertzema and Robert (Kim) Wiertzema both of Little Rock, IA.; daughter-in-law, Susie Wiertzema of Little Rock, IA; six grandchildren: Amber, Amanda, Adeline, Alexander, Adam and Darlene; nine great-grandchildren; three siblings: Marcella Julius of Sibley, IA, Shirley Schwarzkopf of Sibley, IA and Harley Waltjers of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Martha Waltjers; husband, Harry L. Wiertzema; son, Harry W. Wiertzema; brother, Vernon Waltjers; and son-in-law, Jim Whitehouse.
