Dorothy Marie Even was born on December 8, 1924 on a farm near Humboldt, South Dakota to Anthony Even and Clarinda (Hamman) Even. Dorothy grew up and attended school in the Humboldt, SD area.

She married Bernard Eugene McCoy at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Humboldt on February 9, 1943. Upon Bernard's return from service in World War II, they lived in Sioux Falls, Huron, and moved to Le Mars, Iowa in 1955 where the family remained until 1979. Born to this union were Ronald, Kathy, Terry, Gary, David, Duane, Brian, and Robb.

After a lengthy illness Bernard passed away on May 7, 1972. On New Year’s Eve in 1976 Dorothy met Maurice Bruggeman of Larchwood, Iowa. They were united in marriage on September 22, 1978. After several years on the farm, Dorothy and Mick moved into Larchwood, Iowa.

Mick and Dorothy were the perfect couple, complimenting each other in all ways. Dorothy loved her life with Mick and living in Larchwood was the perfect setting for her. Dorothy was an active member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a member of the Ladies Guild. She also enjoyed bowling, dancing and playing cards with family and friends. As Dorothy’s health wavered Mick was always there, lending a helping and loving hand. The McCoy family will be forever indebted to Mick for his strong love and support for Dorothy throughout their marriage, especially over the past few years.

A special Thank You goes out to Colleen Miles for her kind and loving assistance and guidance as Dorothy’s health declined.

Dorothy was blessed with the love of her husband, Maurice “Mick” Bruggeman of Larchwood, IA; eight children, Ron (Avila) McCoy of Omaha, NE, Kathy (Keith) Rimmer of Lake Park, IA, Terry McCoy of Sioux City, IA, Gary McCoy of Ralston, NE, Dave (Rose Ann) McCoy of Sioux Falls, SD, Duane (Mary) McCoy of Rock Rapids, IA, Brian (Berna) McCoy of Albuquerque, NM and Robb (Kim) McCoy of Sioux Falls, SD; twelve grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews and other extended family.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Bernard Eugene McCoy, brothers, Donald and Alvin Even; three grandchildren, Julie, Kimberly and Kyle; and her beloved aunts and uncles of the Even family from the Humboldt, SD area.
