Velma Louise Green, age 89, of Rock Rapids, Iowa, died Thursday, April 14, 2016 at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, April 16, 2016 at Jurrens Funeral Home in Rock Rapids with Pastor Jeff Poppinga officiating. Burial will follow at Pleasant View Cemetery in Little Rock, Iowa. Visitation will be one hour prior to service with family present at the Jurrens Funeral Home of Rock Rapids, Iowa.

Velma Louise Green was born December 27, 1926, at Correctionville, Iowa, to Abraham and Annabelle (Cowart) Green. She lived a simple life and never married. She loved her family and cherished the very few times she was able to be together with them. She enjoyed watching TV, especially the Lawrence Welk show and Wheel of Fortune. She lived in Council Bluffs for some time and worked at Meyers Nursing Home. She then moved to Sioux City, IA and worked at Good Will Industries. In 1978 Velma moved to Rock Rapids, IA to be near her sister Betty and enjoyed working at Hope Haven. In March of 2008 she moved to Lyon Specialty Care. Velma passed away on Thursday April 14, 2016 at Lyon Specialty Care in Rock Rapids, IA at the age of 89. She will be greatly missed.

She is survived by her sister, Betty DeBerg of Rock Rapids; and two nieces, Lisa Blackburn of St. Paul, MN and Mary (Mike) Bossler of Kansas City, MO.

Velma was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Ruby Green and Lola Green; and brother, Raymond Green.
