Sheldon, Iowa - Jennie Klarenbeek, 92, of Sheldon, Iowa died Saturday, March 12, 2016 at the Fieldcrest Assisted Living in Sheldon. Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, March 17, 2016 at First Reformed Church in Sheldon with Rev. Paul Van Maaren officiating. Burial will follow after the luncheon at Valley View Cemetery, Rock Valley. Visitation with the family present will be one hour prior to the funeral service as well as on Wednesday, March 16, 2016 from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at Porter Funeral Home, Rock Valley. Jennie was born December 6, 1923, near Inwood, Iowa, to Hans and Sadie (Burgraaf) Kiel. On December 6, 1946, Jennie’s twenty-third birthday, she married Lane Klarenbeek in Rock Valley.

Together they farmed near Alvord, Iowa where Jennie took on the role of homemaker. In 1971, Lane and Jennie moved to Sheldon where Jennie worked in housekeeping at the Sheldon Hospital.

In 1978, they moved to Sioux Falls where she worked at Sioux Valley Hospital in housekeeping before moving back to Sheldon in 1984 where Jennie helped Wanda at her in-home daycare. She was known to many children as “Grandma Jennie.” Lane passed away on August 3, 1995. Jennie moved to Fieldcrest Assisted Living in April 2014.

Jennie was a member of the First Reformed Church in Sheldon, Iowa. She enjoyed gardening, embroidery, and scrapbooks. Lane and Jennie enjoyed going to flea markets and auctions together. After Lane’s passing, Jennie continued to go to many garage sales. Jennie had a vast collection of salt-and-pepper shakers with over 600 in her collection. During her time at Fieldcrest, Jennie loved attending all the activities and would often be seen with a cup of coffee in her hand.

Jennie is survived by her children, Wanda (Ron) Kooima of Sheldon, Iowa and their children Sheila (Robert) Riedeman—Jennie, Jessica and Vicki (Jamie) Koele—Reece, Brooklyn; Larry (Sandy) Klarenbeek of Spearfish, South Dakota and their children Misti (Ken) McKenna--Kieran, Caden and LaRae (Wade) Mitchell—Gage, Tatum, Brendan; Stan (Lori) Klarenbeek of Edmond, Oklahoma and children, Kelly (Matt) Wright—Malachi, Isaiah, and Naomi, Ryan (Devon) Klarenbeek, Jena (Travis) Hamilton, Alli (Jose) Sanchez, and Jodi (Antonio) Marquez; and sister-in-law, Gert Van Roekel of Sheldon.

She is also survived by Lane’s siblings: brothers, Gerrit (Geneva) Klarenbeek and Clarence (Mary Ann) Klarenbeek all of Rock Valley; sisters, Gertrude Koedam of Rock Valley, Jennie (John) Keizer of Sheldon, Elizabeth (Gary) Dokter of Sioux Center and Ann (Jim) Wielenga of Hull; and sister-in-law, Adrianna Klarenbeek of Inwood.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Lane; brothers, Steve Kiel and Arie Kiel; and sisters, Ann Klarenbeek and Hermina Van Wyhe.
