Rock Rapids, Iowa - Ruby J. Vander Lee, age 81, of Rock Rapids, died Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Sanford Hospital in Rock Rapids.

Funeral service will be 2:00 PM, Friday, February 5th at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, with Rev. Dan Haggar officiating.

Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids.

Visitation will be Thursday, February 4th from 2:00 to 8:00 PM, with family present from 5:00 to 8:00 PM at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids.

Ruby Jayne Vander Lee was born November 16, 1934 at Hull, Iowa, the daughter of Conrad and Winnie (Brunsting) De Wild. Her youth was spent on the family farm near Hull until 1949 when her family moved into Hull. She graduated from Hull High School in 1952. After attending Northwestern in Orange City for two years she taught school for five years in Archer, Hospers and Akron. On August 16, 1955 she was united in marriage to Norman Vander Lee. They lived in Sheldon and Akron until moving to Rock Rapids in 1959. After the children were born, she was a stay-at-home mom.

Ruby was a member of numerous committees and boards in her church, community and surrounding areas. She received the community service award twice. Music was an important part of her life.

Her children and grandchildren were the center of her life and she loved going to all of their activities. She enjoyed traveling, reading, sports, music and sitting on the front porch.

She is survived by her husband of 60 years, Norman Vander Lee; sons, Rollie (Ruth) Vander Lee of Rock Rapids and Jerry (Nancy) Vander Lee of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; daughter, Ruth (Mike) Vogel of Sheldon, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and other extended family members.

Ruby was preceded in death by her parents; son, Paul Evan; siblings, John (Fannetta) De Wild, Henry (Mabel) De Wild, Angeline (Dick) Aardsma; parents-in-law, Tunis and Gertrude Vander Lee; brother-in-law, Myron Vander Lee.
