December 19, 1931 - January 28, 2016

Rock Valley, Iowa - Alvin Hoogendoorn, 84, of Rock Valley, Iowa died Thursday, January 28, 2016 at Whispering Heights of Rock Valley. Funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 1, 2016 at Porter Funeral Home of Rock Valley with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation, with family present, will be held from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Porter Funeral Home. Condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com. The Family prefers memorials be directed to Sioux Center Home Health & Hospice or Netherlands Reformed Christian School of Rock Valley.

Alvin was born December 19, 1931 at Lester, Iowa, son of John and Sadie (Van Abbema) Hoogendoorn. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War (1953-1955) and was a member of the Lester, Iowa American Legion Post #683. He was united in marriage to Arlene Dibbet on March 10, 1955. Together they farmed for 42 years near Inwood, Iowa before retiring to Rock Valley, Iowa in 1997.

Alvin is survived by his wife, Arlene; children, Arlin (Shar) Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley, Kenneth (Jeri) Hoogendoorn of Boyden, Iowa, John (Tricia) Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley, Laura (Paul) Maassen of Watertown, South Dakota, Sandra (John) Dawes of Sioux Falls, South Dakota; 11 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brother, Theodore (Barb) Hoogendoorn of Rock Rapids, Iowa, sisters, Margie Vanden Toorn of Sioux Center, Iowa, Sadie (Albert) Schelling of Sioux Center; brothers-in-law, Frank Wynia of Rock Rapids, Iowa, James (Mary) Burnett of Minneapolis, Minnesota; sisters-in-law, Cornelia Hoogendoorn of Rock Rapids, Peggy Hoogendoorn of Rock Valley, and Hermina Van Veldhuizen of Rock Valley.

Alvin was preceded in death by his parents, John and Sadie; infant brother, John; brothers Gilbert and John B. Hoogendoorn; sisters, Henrietta Davelaar, Joan Van Veldhuizen, Nellie Burnett, Mary Ann Wynia; brothers-in-law, Willie Davelaar, Arthur Van Veldhuizen, Arie Van Veldhuizen, Marvin Vanden Toorn, Albert Maassen; sister-in-law, Connie Hoogendoorn.
