Rock Valley, Iowa -- Simon Post, 103, of Rock Valley, Iowa, formerly of Doon, Iowa, died Wednesday, April 15, 2015 at Whispering Heights in Rock Valley.

Funeral service will be held Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 10:30 a.m. at Porter Funeral Home in Rock Valley with Rev. E.C. Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Valley View Cemetery. Visitation, with family present, will be held Friday, April 17, 2015 at Porter Funeral Home from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Memorials may be given to the Netherlands Reformed Christian School and condolences may be left for the family at www.porterfuneralhomes.com.

Simon Post, son of Klaas and Adriana (Kleyn) Post, was born March 6, 1912 in Fillmore County near York, Minnesota. His family moved to the Rock Valley, Iowa area when he was 17. Simon was united in marriage to Gertrude Meendering on March 16, 1939 at Rock Valley.

He worked as a hired man for farmers in Minnesota and Iowa and later farmed near Hudson, South Dakota. They moved to a farm near Doon, Iowa in 1957. Gertrude passed away in 1994. Simon moved to the nursing home in 2011. Simon had a love for farming and would often enjoy going to the farm sales and the sale barns. He was a member of the Netherlands Reformed Congregation.

Simon is survived by his three sons, Kenneth (Tracy) Post; Willard (Janet) Post; and Marvin (Joan) Post; daughter, Wilma Van Bemmel, all of Doon; 13 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Henrietta Uittenboogard of George, Iowa and Edna Van Abma of Inwood, Iowa.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gertrude; three brothers, Dick Post; John Post; and Clarence Post; sister, Cora Jongetjes; granddaughter, Judy Post; and son-in-law, Alvin Van Bemmel.
